ESSEX STYLEEE!

In Blog,Misc by Pete Tonks / April 24, 2014 / 0 Comments

So,.. I had to squeeze a little job in today for some clients we met up at the recent Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC.

They have recently secured planning permission for a new build in Essex. Nothing to do with me up until I met them at the show with Tim Crump and Dave Grey of Oakwrights.

Whilst the clients had got planning, they were not sure about the design and felt that something was missing. We had a good chat about things at the show and i directed them to various areas which needed adjustment or further exploration was needed as to find exactly what was missing.

I have basically kept the profile and shape of the building as is approved so as to avoid the need to go back to planning but have then referenced some of the local Essex vernacular. The result, in my opinion, is so much better and and has a really cool Essex country house feel to it…. I love it anyway,… lets see what my clients say later.

BARN FUNKIN!

In Misc by Pete Tonks / April 23, 2014 / 0 Comments

This job in Suffolk has been taking a few twists and turns lately but looks like we are close to doing a deal with the planners to get it approved.

First we had the newts to deal with a few months ago but this is now resolved albeit my clients do have slightly lighter pockets! Newts are high maintenance, trust me!

We then recently had some feedback from the locals that they liked the design but did not want to see the barn fully timber boarded. It is often the assumption that barns have to be timbered but there are indeed many good looking barns in brick or stone but it was the request of the locals that it should be rendered! This is fairly unusual to be honest but luckily Suffolk is one of the very counties where you might possibly see a rendered barn.

I worked through a few various combinations and ended up with a mainly rendered barn but with subtle elements of timber boarding just to funk it up a bit. Really loving it and i have heard back from everyone today to say they are loving it too….

Fingers crossed, should have an approval for this through in early May

OXFORDSHIRE EXTENSION AND REMODEL APPROVED!

In Misc by Pete Tonks / April 23, 2014 / 0 Comments

Nice job i have been working on over the last year or so has now recieved full planning approval.

This was an extension and remodel scheme to a fairly non-descript house which the clients agreed with by the way! They did always plan on doing something with the place but on this occasion, as the house was pretty good in terms of services and infrastructure, we decided to remodel rather than replace.

The scheme was ambitious and also the site is within a controlled planning zone known as a AHLV – Area of High Landscape Value so it needed to be a good looker….!

Below are the existing floor plan and front elevation

I am very happy with the end result and the clients love it…. pretty much all you can ask for really.. 🙂 PJT
